Wayfaring Stranger by James Lee Burke

In Wayfaring Stranger, Burke presents a well constructed story told in a simple, sometimes poetic fashion, a style which reflects the character of the novel’s hero, Weldon Holland.

The novel follows Holland’s life through his boyhood (including his involvement with Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow), his years in the US army during WWII, his marriage to a death camp survivor and his involvement in the no-holds-barred Texas oil business.

Ultimately a love story, Wayfaring Stranger is a thrilling, compelling story of one man’s courage, integrity, and optimism. Most importantly, it is an extremely good read.
