Sleep by Nino Ricci

David Pace is suffering from a sleep disorder which causes him to fall asleep spontaneously but never for very long. Every choice he makes seems to take David further from those he cares for and away from any kind of positive life.

A historian whose work embodies the notion that we can see history paralleled through modern day events David’s escalating ruin can be seen as a metaphor for our times.

The reviewer found this a fascinating read as the main character embraces every impulse that will stimulate him to stay awake, stumbling from one personal disaster to another.

The commentary on the times we live in, the crash and burn mentality that we are embracing on so many levels is compelling and strangely reaffirming when it comes down to the final moment.
