The Christmas Fox by Anik McGrory

New to our library collection, this children's book is about the birth of Jesus and the welcome he receives from the animals in the surrounding fields and forest.

Each animal has a special gift that they want to bring the baby. The woodpecker wants to spread the news, the sheep wants to bring him wool, the bird wants to bring him a song, and everyone has a gift, except the fox.

"Just come, it is enough," says the donkey. So shyly the little fox enters the stable after all the other animals have arrived and what he shares is the joy in his heart. This brings a smile to the baby, the donkey was right, "it is enough".

This is a tender story that teaches that the best gift is the one that comes from the heart.

The Golden Son by Shilpi Somaya Gowda

The story begins as Anil’s mother is getting a lavish feast and ceremony ready to bless Anil before he leaves his family home in India to study medicine in America.  Anil is the cherished eldest son and is the first of his large family to attend college or leave India.

As he strives to be the best doctor possible, living in Texas and working at one of the best hospital’s in America, changes him. He must seek the wisdom his father has left him and decide where he will settle down…….in India or America.

The reviewer liked this book because Anil goes through many major life decisions in this story.  Anil comes from a large, well-to-do family but has to face failure, disappointment and hardship along the way. The reviewer especially enjoyed this book's unexpected but satisfying ending.
