Beatrice Doesn’t Want To by Laura Numeroff

The last place Beatrice wants to be is in the library. Beatrice does not enjoy reading or anything to do with books. She is forced to go to the library with her brother Henry while he works on a school project. Henry unsuccessfully tries to interest her in books. She watches Henry work instead, which drives him crazy. On the third day he sees a story-time advertised and drops her off.  She fights it but when the librarian begins to read, she becomes drawn into the story. By the time the story is finished she doesn’t want to leave the library!

This children’s book shows what can happen when a reluctant reader is matched with the right book. It was not until Beatrice connected to a book that she realized reading is fun. This shows the powerful ability a book has to capture one’s heart. This is a great book that can teach children to appreciate reading. Once you read a book and feel connected to it, it becomes something special and you don't want to leave it.
